Have you ever been awestruck at how everyday items can be changed or transformed from one object into a completely different object and used for a completely other purpose? This rug started out with material that looked like this:
The pattern that I used to weave this rug is known as the `Hollywood Pattern` yet is actually a combination of two different patterns. These two distinctive patterns are called the Double Seed Stitch and Point Twill. There are exactly 300 individual threads of yarn that run the length of the rug including 72 black, 84 medium brown and 144 threads of rust-coloured yarn and all woven together using this fabric that I cut into 1.5 inch strips.
These strips of material are then folded over on a bias (outer edges turned under), ironed and then rolled onto a rag shuttle for weaving. The weave is very tight, ensuring that the strips of cloth are firmly bound together ensuring the rug will last for years to come.
To give you an idea of what it looks like in a home environment, this is a photo I took of this rug on the floor of our bathroom. I think it works pretty well here.
This rug is 24 inches wide by 36 inches long and is made from 100% cotton yarn and cotton material.
